Switching

Probably don't.

Xero is a strong product and accountants know it well. If it is working for you, the honest advice is to stay — switching accounting systems costs real time and the gain has to be worth it. Here is the short version of when it might be, and the longer list of when it is not.

What you would be giving up

Before anything else, because this is the part that decides it for most people.

  • There is no importer. Nothing recreates your history. Moving means opening balances and a cutover date.
  • No payroll, and no tax filing.
  • No automatic bank feeds. You import a statement file.
  • US dollars only. If you invoice in more than one currency, our ledger will refuse rather than half-support it.
  • No app marketplace. We have Stripe, Shopify and Etsy as a paid add-on, and that is the whole list.
  • No years of accountants already trained on it. That is a real advantage of an established product and we are not going to pretend otherwise.

When moving might genuinely make sense

  • You want job costing inside the books. Hours and costs on the same job as the revenue, with profit per job as a report rather than a spreadsheet maintained alongside. For anyone quoting work, this is usually the whole reason.
  • You are paying for seats so people can look. Accountant and read-only seats never count against your people number on any SutorBooks package, including Free.
  • You run several small companies. Multi-company under one login is part of every package rather than a separate subscription each.
  • You want to be able to leave. A full export of your company data, any time. Worth asking of any vendor, including us.

If none of those describes you, stay where you are. We would rather say so here than have you spend a weekend on a migration you regret.

On price

You may have arrived here because of what you are paying. We are not going to make that argument, for a straightforward reason: our prices are not set, so any claim about being cheaper would be a number nobody has decided.

When prices are real they will appear on the package pages, and you can make the comparison yourself with both numbers in front of you. Until then, the honest position is that we do not know what we cost and neither do you.
