Named after the trade, not the theory.
SutorBooks is built by Apex Equity, LLC — owned and operated by a tribal citizen and a disabled veteran.
Why a cobbler
Sūtor is Latin for a cobbler, from suere — to sew, to stitch, to join two things together.
That is exactly how proper books work. Every dollar that arrives came from somewhere; every dollar that leaves went somewhere. Record both halves and the books cannot quietly drift out of true. It's a tradesperson's name for a tradesperson's tool, and it says more about what the software does than most product names manage.
It's pronounced SOO-tor. It gets misspelled constantly. We've made our peace with that.
sūtor
/ˈsuː.tor/ · Latin, noun
A cobbler. One who stitches two sides into a single thing that holds.
Why we're building it
The gap in the middle
The lighter tools are easy but thin underneath — they track money in and money out, which is a list rather than a set of books. The serious ones have the depth and are expensive and overbuilt for a business of three people. SutorBooks is the depth without the weight.
The buyer isn't an accountant
Nobody running a small business should need to know what a trial balance is to keep clean books. So the accounting is real underneath and stays out of the way on top, and we write in plain words everywhere except the pages written for accountants.
Being straight is the position
We have no customers yet, so you'll find no testimonials, no ratings and no invented statistics on this site. Where we don't do a thing, we say so plainly rather than leave you to find out in month three: no payroll, no tax filing, no bank feeds.
The company
Apex Equity, LLC.
Owned and operated by a tribal citizen and a disabled veteran. That ownership is also why the Native American Owned Business program exists — the Standard package granted at no cost to businesses majority owned and controlled by enrolled tribal members. It's the part of this work we care most about getting right.
SutorBooks isn't open for general signup yet. When it is, you'll find the packages and what's in each one on the pricing pages — with real numbers the day they are real, and not before.
Where to go next
- What the software actually does — money in, money out, the bank, the ledger and the reports.
- What's true about security, including a plain list of what we don't claim.
- Whether it's built for you — trades, founders, shops and the accountants who work with them.
- Ask us something. A person answers.
